The Paul E. & Klare N. Reinhold Foundation, Inc., held its annual “Celebrate Clay” community service awards breakfast on April 25th at the Thrasher-Horne Center, during which the Foundation distributed $100,000 and 47 community service awards to nonprofit organizations that provide services to Clay County residents.

Waste Not Want Not, captured the top honor this year, earning the $15,000 Paul E. Reinhold Community Service Award. Waste Not connects the dots between surplus food and hungry people. The agency prevented 2 million pounds of food waste last year and served 47 other food agencies in Clay County by providing the equivalent of 11,000 meals every week to help alleviate food insecurity in Clay County.

The Foundation’s “Celebrate Clay” awards program honors the legacy of Paul and Klare Reinhold, and recognizes, rewards, and encourages community service within Clay County. The Foundation has awarded more than $1.16 million to Celebrate Clay award recipients in the past fifteen years.

A panel of five judges including three independent volunteers from the community and two Reinhold family representatives voted on the best projects of 2022 to determine the winners of the $100,000 in cash awards. This year’s judges were: Michael Bourré, President, Bourré Construction Group, LLC; Crawford Powell, President, Clay County Economic Development Corporation; Lisa Valentine, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital; and Olivia Myers and Victoria Myers, Reinhold Family Members.

Applications were open to all non-profit groups active in the First Coast Area that provided services to Clay County residents in 2022. The 47 winners included Clay County and regionally based nonprofits, churches, and school programs.
